ANDREW MASULLO
Back in the 1930s and '40s, when owning sexy books and pictures could land you in the pokey, 32-page booklets known as "lunchbox porn" were hot, under-the-counter commodities. Each contained tales of lurid wantonness coupled with smarmy, grade Z photos of naked men and women doing what naked men and women do when placed before a camera and paid a couple of bucks to do it.
It's a treat to find these booklets in pristine condition, but I love them best well-worn. Only those in tatters can testify to the devotion they once inspired. I'm drawn most to their colorful, deadpan covers, with titles stultifyingly banal, crazily misspelled, and some so sexually off-putting as to leave me in titters.
Andrew Masullo is a New York painter living in San Francisco. He collects many tons of things, including the porn confections presented herewith.
