C. A. WERTHEIM

For more than thirty years, the Dutch artist C. A. Wertheim has made self-portraits using incredibly diverse techniques, mediums, and objects: ink, photography, paper, wood, fabric, cables, cork, paper bags, food trays ect. Permeated with self-derision, her portrait-collages accumulate random associations, poor materials, unflattering representations, delivering an uncompromising vision of the woman and the artist.

In her recent, more sober ink works, C. A. Wertheim multiplies appearances and metamorphoses, making a quest for identity and place of humans in the world the core subject of her art.
