Empirical Nonsense

CRISTIAN PIETRAPIANA . Diaries

For the last few years Pietrapiana has been incorporating the overarching theme of climate change into his art. He selects a double page spread from a current newspaper and works around a printed headline or image, in order to highlight a particular concept.

In this particular series, he makes these interventions with basic, yet sometimes playful, lines and shapes using ink or acrylic paint. As a result, an initial piece of art is created that may be combined with more pieces in order to establish a triptych or a larger grid. Both the support material and its content are aligned with Pietrapiana’s work which comments on the vulnerability of human nature, our immediate surroundings and life as we know it on this planet.

In the end, it is a humble invitation for people to analyze what they read and see, but overall to think independently.

Since the original pages are made of recycled,  fragile, ephemeral newspaper, a limited edition of 2  prints per piece on archival paper is what remains.

Originally from Buenos Aires, Cristian Pietrapiana lives and works in New York City. His work explores the vulnerability of human nature, and our surroundings.
