JASON KARAÏNDROS
Jason Karaïndros is a visual artist, born in 1963 in Athens, who lives and works in Paris since 1981. He studied at the E.N.S.B.A. in Paris in the multimedia studio of Piotr Kowalski and is also a graduate of the Ecole du Louvre where he studied art history.
His interest in an artistic practice that takes into account the fields of science and technology has led him to work with multimedia techniques. Sculpture, drawing, installation, photography, video, sound, digital programming etc. are part of his plastic language. Although this does not prevent him from sometimes taking a very acute and critical look at political and social life, he infuses his research, the constants that structure his work and his meditation on the world with a strong metaphysical dimension. His questioning focuses in particular on those invisible limits on the threshold of which science stands, but beyond which our mind and our perception may attempt to venture; whether it be phenomena linked to the apprehension of time, the progression of the tides or particular qualities of shadow and light ... The works of Jason Karaïndros do not belong to the classical register of representation, nor to that of discursive narration. They give form to thought. While proceeding from a poetic vision, they have the power to designate language.
Jason Karaïndros has won numerous prizes, grants and public commissions, and several of his works have been acquired by important institutions: Fond National d'Art Contemporain, Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, FRAC Haute-Normandie, Artothèque du Limousin ...
During the last decade, he has had several solo exhibitions and has taken part in a large number of group exhibitions throughout the world: "Des Temps donnés" Candes Saint-Martin, "Mobile-Immobile" Musée de la Picardie, Amiens, Centre d'art contemporain La Maréchalerie, Versailles; Kunstmuseum, Bergen, Norway; Reykjavik Art Museum, Island; 10th International Istanbul Biennial; 2nd Triennial of Contemporary Art, Yokohama, Japan; Centre d'Art Contemporain, Sète; Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris ... Upcoming is his participation in the group exhibitions Bolero in Rouen en CosmiComix in Marseille.
Jason Karaïndros has been teaching since 2000 at the Regional School of Fine Arts in Rouen, now ESADHaR Le Havre Rouen.
