MARCOS URIONDO

Like a chameleon artist, Marcos Uriondo adapts his practice according to the projects that drive him and in which he constantly goes back and forth between the meaning of an idea and its figurative form.

His playground is that of the simulacrum, of the illusory where planes, scales and materials are superimposed. Through landscapes and phantasmal objects, Marcos subtly mixes registers. It is then that the flat surface of a canvas becomes the privileged place to approach depth, or that domestic objects become the spokespersons (in the literal sense) of a rhetoric specific to the artist.

Marcos Uriondo uses his memory and his imagination as a support to question space. In a subjective way, his memories of places are reinterpreted and transformed. Works based on photographs of landscapes are captured and used to obtain digital panoramas. Meticulous, the artist sets up a first draft: the 3D modeling associated with collage. We then observe a set of figurative paintings and installations in which geometric figures and photographs are combined. A volume is created by these visual compositions, dialoguing with the architectural space and making possible an interaction with the public.

A new relationship to painting is defined and another reading is offered to the visitor, who can thus question the limits of space and his perception of the environment.

BIO

Marcos Uriondo is a Spanish artist based since 2017 in an artist-run-space called ChezKit, in the suburbs of Paris. His works combine different kinds of media such as painting, sculpting, 3D modelling and photography.

His practice has lately been focused on the idea of space. Working with particular existing places and personal experiences, he tries to reconstruct them from a subjective perspective, exploring his own perceptions of space and its potential transformations depending on the way they are used. Through memories and imagination, he builds places and objects that offer a distorted representation of an alternative ontology that references his own subjective and situated notion of reality.


This artist is featured in the current exhibition of Bolero, an international art project on the move, organized by Bureau Doove Projects at the Centre André Malraux from March 22 — April 10, 2021
