BOBBIE OLIVER

Much of my work and decisions arise from the work itself: editing, changing and trying our different combinations. This editing is the narrative of the work and once something finds its resting place, it is absolutely irrefutable. There is also a residue that accumulates in this process that makes up the soul of the painting. The physical aspect of the painting is very important and I pay close attention to how the paint sits on the canvas, whether it soaks in or is opaque and this leads to a resolution of a tactile space that breathes. Making large paintings that have a quality of intimacy and physicality is a goal. I don’t have a preconceived plan but work more intuitively with what presents itself.
