LISETTE VAN HOOGENHUYZE

Bombshell, 2020

Acrylic, linen, cloth, steel frame

135 x 140 x 20 cm

Having grown up beside the beach, Lisette van Hoogenhuyze noticed how there are fewer ways to show your identity while only wearing swimwear. Questioning the visual language of the beach became the center of Van Hoogenhuyze’s work. The loosely unframed canvasses she is known for seem to be wet beach towels waiting to dry. Her work entitled ‘Stacks’ goes even further; with four paintings rolled up and placed within a frame, she presents paintings as towels.
