RAFAEL SANTIAGO . Evil Eyes
As with a lot of my lens-based work, I scour the internet for images that serve the interest of my themes, fine print them and arrange them into collages. With this series, I appropriate vintage imagery of Hollywood stars, gay porn stars, and text with vintage vinyl album sleeves. I often incorporate fantasy into my work, imagining other times and tales. The result is something like this:
Relics of the past.
A Queer Fantasy.
Two become and see as one.
Fact and fiction blend and blur.
Whispers linger.
Fixations deepen.
Laughter ensues.
Tears spill.
Eye witnesses.
Peekaboo I see you.
