CRACKERFARM
In the tradition of American realism, Crackerfarm’s body of work displays a subversive inquest into the aesthetic and historical valuation of past and present cultures. Traditional imagery is fused with the aggressiveness of a punk rock road movie. Forcing us to rethink the relationship between the past and the present, the viewer is invited to make an alternative connection between the two. While subjects range from friends and acquaintances, to bands and people they meet on the road, the collaboration with Scott Avett shows a photographic production that, much like Avett’s own work, remains consistent in an innate classicism, one that transforms routine appearances into something exceptional.
Crackerfarm officially started in July 2004, but its roots go back to 2002. It commenced as an artist duo consisting of Mike Beyer (born in 1979 in Hunterdon, New Jersey) and then partner Lindsay Rome (born in 1982 in Charleston, West Virginia). Both graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York. In 2010 Rome left the collaboration to focus on her own work. Beyer continues to work under the Crackerfarm moniker.
