FRANCESCO RUSSO
Sicilian-born sculptor Francesco Russo left the language of western modernism behind to devote himself entirely to the creation of timeless spiritual symbols. A Hindu-influenced vision gives rise to drawings, paintings and sculptures capturing and confronting us with higher energies: messages from another dimension, which can lead to self-knowledge, transformation and healing.
As a young artist, Francesco Russo was noticed by Alexander Iolas, who showed his work in four solo exhibitions in Paris, Milan and New York. When Iolas died, Russo left for India, where he later often returned. He withdrew from the contemporary art world yet without ceasing to create: art became a direct reflection of a never-ending mystical journey, which started more than twenty years ago. His unceasing search for the transcendent, for his own divine essence, is expressed in his work with great presence, either marked by the intensity of a struggle or by the serenity of an insight.
